Group of Works: 'Achromes' - or white at first glance

The achromatic white tone used in the paintings and reliefs is the same throughout the entire group of works. Nuances and changes in hue are due to surface structure and lighting only. While the reduction to white, as opposed to an environment frequently glutted with imagery, sharpens attention to detail, the surfaces may also impart an air of tranquillity.

Though these works follow the footsteps of artists such as the ZERO group founded by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene, their focus is rather on surface manipulation and the resulting refraction than on colour symbolism.
